Re-release of the Album 'SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIRL', DIRA Introduces a Bonus Track with a Humanitarian Theme

The singer, who is also an actress, tells the ups and downs of her early career in the album that was officially released on September 21, 2021.

The beginning of the creation of the album SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIRL started in 2007. At that time, DIRA was asked to come to London by a music producer named Bluey to collaborate on an album. However, it turned out that the process of creating all the songs could not happen quickly.

Yes, it took about 3 years for DIRA to complete the entire contents of the album SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIRL. Not without reason, both DIRA and Bluey had their own busy schedules, not to mention the distance constraints that often hindered the recording process.

"Throughout my career, I have been known more as a singer of big songs or festival songs. It's not a problem, but I still feel the need to show another side of myself, especially now and in the future. And one of those sides is captured very well in the album Something About The Girl. So, why don't I just start from there," DIRA revealed in a press release received by KapanLagi.com.

From there, the original version of the album SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIRL was created and released in 2010. So what is the difference between this latest album and its predecessor?

1. A Bonus New Song

Digging deeper, DIRA added a bonus track titled Carry Me in this re-release album. The lyrics tell the story of DIRA's concern about the humanitarian conditions happening in many countries at that time. And that theme is the reason why the song Carry Me was not included in its original version.

"Maybe you don't need to talk about this topic for now. You're still young, just talk about happy things first!" DIRA recalled Bluey's expression.

At that time, no one expected that these lyrics would become so relevant about eleven years later. Especially entering a pandemic period like now.

2. Involving Top Musicians in the Country

The idea for the title SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIRL itself was obtained when DIRA was doing a photoshoot for promotional purposes. At that time, the woman who holds a bachelor's degree in music with a major in vocal performance from Pelita Harapan University heard the photographer say, 'There's something mysterious about this girl.'

One of the main agendas agreed upon by DIRA and Bluey for this album is to involve musicians from the country. As a result of their discussion, a series of names emerged such as Tohpati, Indro Hardjodikoro, Barry Likumahuwa, and Ari Firman (The Groove). Meanwhile, Rieka Roeslan contributed one of her songs titled Kucemburu.

"For another Indonesian-language song, I chose Kami Cinta Indonesia, a song by the late Harry Roesli. I think it's a shame if his works are not known to young people," said DIRA.
