Taking on Two Roles in the Sabang - Merauke Show, Kikan Feels Challenged

She will be performing in the "Premiere with Live Performance - Screening of the Sabang - Merauke Show Video" event that will be held on June 3-5 at the Djakarta Theater Ballroom in Central Jakarta. In this event, Kikan also feels challenged as she takes on a new role.

In this event, Kikan will sing together with four singers, Mirabeth Sonia (Finalist of Indonesian Idol X), Christine Tambunan, Taufan Purbo, and Alsant Nababan. Not only that, Kikan was also appointed as the Music Director (MD). Initially, Kikan was hesitant, but thanks to the support of her loved ones and many others, Kikan dared to take on the role.

"This is very difficult and challenging. If I had been an MD in other music events, I have experienced it before. But for this regional music event, it's my first time. This forces me to step out of my comfort zone," said Kikan during rehearsals held at iCanStudioLive Senopati, South Jakarta, not long ago.

1. Kikan is very detail-oriented

When selecting singers and musicians to be involved, Kikan is very detailed in her curation. Especially for singers, Kikan doesn't just look for big names, but the character and mentality of the singer are also important notes.

"At first I was hesitant, but with the support of my closest people and input from many musicians, it was very helpful. The other challenge is that I also have to sing here, so my focus is divided," continued Kikan.

2. Has Many Friends

Kikan revealed that she has many musician and singer friends. She looks for someone with a strong mentality and character. Because for her, singing regional songs has its own challenges. She studies their track record. Like Mirabeth, she's from Kalimantan. She has character, her timbre is very distinctive.

"I'm very lucky to be involved in this event. It's an opportunity and I've never done it before," said Mirabeth.

3. There is a Level of Difficulty

Kikan added that the level of difficulty of being a music director in the Sabang-Merauke Performance is that she has to be able to convey the essence of every music, song, and dance performed accurately so as not to deviate from the context.

In addition to ensuring that the music flows perfectly, Kikan has to divide her focus when performing as a singer. Because when performing in a show, in addition to requiring her to sing beautifully, Kikan also has to change into four traditional costumes with limited time behind the stage.

"The most challenging thing is that every region has its own story, so the demands of the mood we present must match the song. Meanwhile, backstage, I'm the most disorganized because I have to change clothes up to four times. It's quite fun and stressful. That's why when my husband, who is the producer of this show, asked me to be the music director, I was sulking and ignored him for three days," said Kikan.

4. 21 Regional Songs

This performance features 21 regional songs and one national song, performed beautifully by five singers. In addition, the show involves 46 traditional and modern musicians and 135 experienced dancers from both the country and the international stage. Big names in the performing arts also took part in this performance.

For the visual aspect, Sandhidea Cahyo Narpati, Pulung Jati, Dian Bokir, and Rizky Dafin collaborated in the choreography line. The ethnic regional nuances were also strongly felt in this performance thanks to Kidung & team in the traditional music arrangement and the support from Ava & Team Orchestra. The harmony of the performers was sweetly concluded by director Rusmedi Agus.

5. Live Performance Show

In reality, the Sabang - Merauke Show has successfully been performed in a live performance at the Prambanan Temple courtyard at the end of March 2022. To spread the spirit of unity in diversity, iForte is holding a "Premiere with Live Performance - Screening of Sabang - Merauke Show Video".

This event will be held on June 3-5 at the Djakarta Theater Ballroom, Jakarta. The Indonesian Fashion Designers Association (IPMI) will also participate in beautifying the costumes worn by the performers at the premiere.
