4 Ways to Know Allah SWT, Complete with Islamic Evidence

Of course, this is useful for increasing faith in Allah SWT and his religion. And there are several ways to know Allah SWT well and completely with the evidence.

In Islamic teachings, knowing Allah as the Creator and Ruler of the universe and all creatures is an obligation. Allah SWT has indicated and invited His servants to know Him as stated in the Quran, which means,

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding." (QS. Ali Imran: 190).

So for those who believe in Allah SWT, it is mandatory to know and recognize Allah SWT and His greatness. And you must know how to know Allah SWT with the evidence in Islam. 1. Understanding the Existence of Allah SWT

The first way to recognize Allah SWT is by knowing His own existence. As Muslims, we must believe that Allah is the Creator of all beings that truly exist. Besides seeing all His creations in different forms, colors, types, and so on, our intellect will conclude that these objects must have been created by someone and cannot exist on their own.

Furthermore, the five senses possessed by every human being also acknowledge the existence of Allah SWT, as we see people praying, calling upon Allah, and asking Him for something to be granted. The recognition of fitrah has been mentioned by Allah in the Qur'an.

"And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], 'Am I not your Lord?' They said, 'Yes, we have testified.' [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, 'Indeed, we were of this unaware.' Or [lest] you say, 'It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?'" (Al-A'raf: 172-173)

2. Getting to Know the Lordship of Allah

Then another way to get to know Allah SWT is by recognizing and believing in the oneness of the Lordship of Allah. As Muslims, we are obliged to believe in the oneness of the Lordship of Allah, that only Allah is the creator, owner, ruler, and organizer of all creatures.

It is clear that only Allah gives life, causes death, provides sustenance, brings goodness, and even brings disaster. Allah is the one who watches, organizes, rules, owns the law, and so on, which shows the sole authority of Allah SWT.

Therefore, a Muslim must believe that no one can rival Allah SWT in this matter. Allah says: "All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds" (Al-Fatihah/1:2).

"Say, 'He is Allah, the One. Allah is the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.'" (Al-Ikhlas: 1-4)

So when someone believes that besides Allah, there is someone who has the ability to do the above, it means that person has oppressed Allah and associated partners with Him. And this becomes one of the major sins, even going against the religion of Allah SWT.

3. Getting to Know the Divinity of Allah

Besides Rububiyah, there is another way to recognize Allah SWT by recognizing the Uluhiyah of Allah SWT. This means believing that only Allah SWT deserves to be worshiped. Worship should not be given to anyone other than Allah, even to creatures close to Him, such as angels or prophets.

Especially not to creatures below them, such as humans, jinn, animals, trees, rocks, weapons, planets, animals, or others. Allocating a certain type of worship to someone other than Allah is considered a major injustice in His sight, often referred to as shirk (associating partners with Allah).

Even Allah says in the Qur'an: "Only to You, O Allah, we worship and only to You, O Allah, we seek help." (Al-Fatihah: 5)

The purpose of introducing the oneness of Allah's Uluhiyah is for us to love Allah, submit to Him, fear and hope in Him, and dedicate worship solely to Him. Worshiping Allah means humbling oneself and obeying Allah SWT with love, greatness, hoping for mercy, and fearing punishment. This is done by obeying Allah's commands and avoiding His prohibitions.

As for the scope of worship, it includes everything loved and approved by Allah SWT, both in words and actions, both outwardly and inwardly. Worship will be accepted by Allah with two conditions, namely sincerity (ikhlas) and conformity (mutaba'ah). Sincerity is seeking the pleasure of Allah alone. While mutaba'ah is following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.

Therefore, a person who believes in Allah SWT will dedicate all types of worship solely to Him. Among the types of worship are absolute obedience with hope and fear, love accompanied by absolute submission. Prayer, intention in worship (sincerity), sacrificing animals, fear, reliance, and others.

4. Getting to Know the Names and Attributes of Allah

And the last way to get to know Allah SWT is by knowing the names and attributes of Allah SWT mentioned in the Quran and authentic Sunnah, without resembling the creatures. Allah says:

"To Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing." (Al-A'raf/7:180)

"There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing." (Ash-Shura/42:11)

Likewise, the one who knows Allah best among all creatures is His Messenger. Therefore, the explanation of the Messengers about Allah is the truth. On the other hand, the statements of the disbelievers and polytheists about Allah are mere assumptions. Allah says:

"Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. And peace upon the messengers. And praise to Allah, Lord of all the worlds." (Ash-Shaffat/37:180-182)

Those are some ways to get to know Allah SWT properly and in accordance with the evidence and Islamic law. As Muslims, we must believe in and know Allah SWT, and all the greatness of Allah SWT. This will nurture our faith and strengthen our belief in Allah SWT.
