Kapanlagi.com - The President's Special Envoy for Tourism, Zita Anjani, expressed concerns regarding the surge in flight ticket prices to Eastern Indonesia ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Based on existing data, tickets for the CGK-Kupang route on Friday, December 20, 2024, were reported to be nearly Rp12 million, whereas the normal price is around Rp2 million. A similar situation occurred on the CGK-Manado route, which skyrocketed to Rp14 million, far above the normal price of around Rp2.5 million.
"The holiday season usually affects flight ticket prices, and that's normal. However, a surge of up to six times is clearly excessive and becomes a barrier for tourists, especially those wanting to celebrate Christmas and New Year in NTT and North Sulawesi," said Zita.
Zita understands that this situation could be caused by high demand, but she reminds that unreasonable ticket prices can negatively impact the local tourism sector. "NTT and North Sulawesi are destinations rich in culture and natural beauty, and the year-end holiday moment should be an opportunity to boost tourist visits, not the other way around," she emphasized.
"We need strict monitoring of the ticket prices set by airlines, to ensure they remain within reasonable and affordable limits. Indonesian tourism must be inclusive, not exclusive," Zita concluded.
This statement is expected to be an initial step for the government in maintaining the accessibility of Indonesian tourist destinations for all layers of society, especially during long holidays like Christmas and New Year.
