Procedures for Tahajjud Prayer Along with Intentions and Its Specialties

Kapanlagi.com - Tahajjud prayer is a voluntary prayer performed one-third of the night after we sleep. This prayer is a confirmed voluntary prayer, which is a voluntary prayer strengthened by the sharia.

The minimum number of units (rakaat) in Tahajjud prayer is 2 units and can be performed continuously without limits according to our ability. Tahajjud prayer can be performed at any time during the night, but the best time is one-third of the night from 1 o'clock until before the dawn prayer call.

However, we are also allowed to perform Tahajjud prayer at 10 o'clock at night, which is after the Isha prayer until 1 o'clock in the morning. What obligates us to perform Tahajjud prayer is to sleep before performing it, even if it is only for 15 minutes. Tahajud prayer is a prayer that holds a special meaning for Muslims, although it is a voluntary prayer, there is a special honor for Muslims who perform it. Why is that?

Tahajud prayer brings many benefits to those who perform it, such as good health, forgiveness of sins, avoiding loneliness in the grave, fragrant body odor, giving light to the face, guaranteeing livelihood, safety and pleasure in this world and the hereafter, receiving attention and love from Allah SWT and His paradise.

There are still many good things that a Muslim can gain by regularly performing Tahajud prayer. That is why Tahajud prayer is special for Muslims.

2. Intention

To start the procedure of Tahajud prayer, we must begin with an intention directed towards Allah SWT. The intention should be sincere and for the sake of seeking His pleasure.

The intention for Tahajud prayer is as follows:

Ushollii sunnatat tahajjudi rak'ataini lillaahi ta'aalaa.

I intend to perform 2 rak'ahs of voluntary Tahajud prayer for the sake of Allah Ta'ala.

3. Starting Prayer

After reciting the intention, the next step in the procedure of Tahajjud prayer is that we can immediately perform Tahajjud prayer just like performing regular prayers. The steps to start the prayer are as follows:

- The first thing we do is the takbiratul Ihram movement or takbir to start the prayer by raising both hands to the level of the ears.

- The second step in the procedure of Tahajjud prayer is to recite the istiftah or iftitah prayer to begin the recitation of the Tahajjud prayer. Reciting the istiftah prayer is recommended, but it is optional.

- Next, recite Surah Al-Fatihah and short surahs from the Quran.

- The next step in the procedure of Tahajjud prayer is to perform the rukuk (bowing) and recite the rukuk prayer three times.

- Then, perform the i'tidal (standing after bowing) and recite the i'tidal prayer.

- After that, perform the sujud (prostration) and recite the sujud prayer three times.

- Sit between the two prostrations and recite the appropriate prayer.

- Prostrate again for the second time and recite the sujud prayer three times again.

- After completing the first rak'ah, perform the second rak'ah in the same way as the first rak'ah, starting with reciting Surah Al-Fatihah.

- After completing the second rak'ah, perform the final tashahhud (sitting portion of the prayer) and give the salam to conclude the prayer.

This indicates that you have performed two rak'ahs of Tahajjud prayer. You can perform more if you are able to do so.

4. Prayer

After performing the tahajud prayer, the next procedure of tahajud prayer is to pray to Allah SWT. This is the time where you can spend time with Allah SWT, where you can ask and tell anything to Allah SWT.

As for the prayers that you can do after the tahajud prayer, they are as follows:

Allaahumma Laka Aslamtu, Wa Bika Aamantu, Wa Alaika Tawakkaltu, Wa Ilaika Anabtu, Wa Bika Khaashamtu, Wa Ilaika Haakamtu, Faghfirlii Maa Qaddamtu, Wa Maa Akh-Khartu, Wa Maa Asrartu, Wa Maa A'lantu, Wa Maa Anta A'lamu Bihiminnii.Antal Muqaddimu, Wa Antal Mu'akhkhiru, Laa Ilaaha Illaa Anta, Wa Laa Haula Wa Laa Quwwata Illaa Billaah.

O Allah, only to You do I surrender, only in You do I believe, only on You do I rely, only to You do I turn, only with You do I confront my enemies, and only to You do I judge.

Therefore, forgive all my sins, those that I have done and those that I will do, those that I have hidden and those that I have done openly, and other sins that You know better than me.

You are the First and the Last. There is no god but You, and there is no power and strength except with the help of Allah. Amen.

You can also pray in your own language comfortably, Allah SWT understands everything about His people. As long as you pray with a sincere and sincere heart and do it for the sake of Allah SWT.

5. Remembrance

After you have finished praying to Allah SWT, the next procedure for tahajud prayer is to perform dhikr. As it is known, dhikr has 3 types, namely:

- Dhikr to remember Allah SWT such as praising and glorifying

- The second is dhikr to remember the commands, prohibitions, and punishments that Allah SWT has given to all His people.

- And finally, dhikr to remember the blessings and goodness that Allah SWT has bestowed upon all His people.

As for the dhikr recitations that we can do after performing tahajud prayer or obligatory prayer, among them are:

Astaghfirullohal 'azhim alladzi la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qoyyum wa atubu ilaih.

I seek forgiveness from Allah the Almighty, who there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence, and I repent to Him.

Allahu Akbar

Allah is the Greatest

Alhamdulillah

All praise is due to Allah

Laa ilaaha illallah

There is no god but Allah

Astaghfirullohal 'Adzim

I seek forgiveness from Allah the Almighty

And dhikr of salutations to the Prophet Muhammad,

Allahumma sholli 'ala sayyidina muhammad wa 'ala ali sayyidina muhammad
