Roy Kiyoshi shares stories about his family's meaningful traditions. When met at the Vihara in the Sunter area, North Jakarta, on Monday (27/1/2025), Roy appeared to be deeply engaged in various rituals that are part of the Lunar New Year celebration.
"So we have a tradition in my family where we worship together, and then also share food. Because we believe that what we sow, we will also reap," Roy revealed.
According to Roy, this tradition also involves the roles of monks and banthe who support the religious rituals. Additionally, the family gathering for a meal is a moment that is always eagerly awaited.
"Here there is a monk and a Buddhist. We support these individuals. In addition, there is a meal together with the extended family," he added.
In the series of rituals at the Vihara, Roy explained that they provide food as a form of gratitude and also pray for the welfare of all beings.
"Earlier during the prayer ritual, we offered food, and right after that, we were prayed for. Then we also went to the Buddha hall to pray for the safety and welfare of all beings, all humanity," he explained.
Roy also offered a special prayer for Indonesia and the world to be spared from various disasters.
"I pray for Indonesia and abroad so that there are no disasters. That's the tradition, praying together," he said.
When asked about the meaning of this year's Lunar New Year, Roy mentioned that this moment is the right time for reflection and to set new resolutions.
"In interpreting this year's Lunar New Year, I hope to become more successful and healthier. My resolution after the Lunar New Year is to engage in more social activities," Roy expressed.
