Admitting to Obtaining Illegal Drugs, Vanessa Angel Gives Different Testimony from Witness Abdul Malik Regarding Xanax

Kapanlagi.com - The defendant in a drug abuse case, Vanessa Angel, admitted to receiving six pills of xanax from Abdul Malik, her former lawyer, while defending an online prostitution case in Surabaya, East Java.

"I was given six (xanax pills) by my former lawyer Abdul Malik and I took one, he gave it to me at the Surabaya Court around May 2019," said Vanessa in the courtroom on Monday, (5/10/2020).

Vanessa's statement contradicts Abdul Malik's statement in the Examination Report, which stated that he only gave two xanax pills to Vanessa.

Therefore, the presiding judge emphasized to Vanessa about the number of xanax pills given by Abdul Malik. "Six or two?" said the judge, to which Vanessa Angel replied, "Six, Your Honor."

In the scheduled trial of the defendant, Vanessa also explained about the 15 xanax pills found by the police in her residence.

She, who claimed to have anxiety disorder since 2016, which made her depressed and difficult to sleep, bought xanax a few days after being arrested by the police for being caught with a man in a hotel room in Surabaya on January 5, 2019.

"(The 15 xanax) I bought them from a pharmacy in Surabaya. I took one and brought the rest to Jakarta. That was on the 15th, it was an additional BAP (Investigation Report), not a suspect yet, then I went back to Jakarta and on the 31st I was examined again and after that I didn't go back," she said.

Vanessa admitted to buying 16 xanax pills at a pharmacy in Surabaya by showing a doctor's prescription from RS Puri Cinere, Jakarta. Initially, the pharmacy staff refused to give it because Vanessa's prescription could not be redeemed in Surabaya. However, because the pharmacy staff idolized Vanessa, they finally gave her the xanax.

"It turns out the employee asked for a photo with me, he's a fan of mine. Then he said 'is it really okay, miss?' 'Yes, it's okay, I'll give it to you,'" said Vanessa.

As it is known, the police arrested Vanessa Angel at her residence in Permata Mediterania, Kembangan, West Jakarta, on March 16, 2020.

At that time, the police seized 20 xanax pills from Vanessa's residence, 15 pills in the dressing table drawer in Vanessa's room and another 5 pills in Vanessa's bag in the car.

For her actions, Vanessa was charged with Article 62 of the Indonesian Law No. 5 of 1997 concerning Psychotropic Substances, in conjunction with the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 49 of 2018 regarding Changes in the Classification of Psychotropic Substances in the Appendix to Law Number 5 of 1997 concerning Psychotropic Substances.
