Arie Untung Remembers His Father's Struggles, Was Once Robbed and Worked at Age 52 for His Child's Education

Arie Untung recalls the struggles of his father who raised him not in a financially comfortable situation. His father even worked using a motorcycle to send his children to school.

Arie revealed that his father always tried to appear neat and did not show any problems in front of his children. However, behind that, his father had experienced some quite terrifying events.

"Actually, we were not raised in a luxurious economy, I mean, it was really struggling for my father. Until he was 52, he was still using a motorcycle to work, what mattered was that we could go to college," said Arie Untung when met at TPU Kampung Kandang, South Jakarta, Saturday (18/7/2026).

"But in front of the children, he looks neat, not overly ambitious, tidy. In reality, we don’t know what kind of battles he faces outside. He once came home after being robbed," said Arie.

These stories of struggle were only known to Arie after he himself became a father. He realized how much effort his father put into hiding difficulties for the peace of his children.

"His struggle was that in front of the children he wanted to appear as if there were no problems, but in reality, he was facing many issues. That’s why I feel, thank you, Dad, for fighting for us," said Arie.

Despite facing many life difficulties, the father was known never to hold a grudge against anyone. That calm demeanor is one of the things Arie remembers most about his father.

"He doesn't hold grudges against people, doesn't have enemies because, you know, no matter how angry he gets, he just stays relaxed like he doesn't take things to heart," said Arie.

As it is known, Arie Untung's father, H. Untung Rumekso, passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday (18/7/2026). On the same day, the body of H. Untung Rumekso was buried at TPU Kandang, South Jakarta.
