Kapanlagi.com - The trial process of the 'Ikan Asin' case involving Galih Ginanjar continues amid the coronavirus pandemic. The trial is being conducted via teleconference with the judge, prosecutor, and legal advisors at the South Jakarta District Court. Meanwhile, the defendants remain in detention at the Jakarta Metro Police detention center.
Before today's trial, Galih's lawyer, Sugiyarto, provided a statement to the media over the phone. He expressed confidence that today's verdict would be favorable to his client.
"We are optimistic (about getting leniency). Based on the examination of the police report, the reported video, the facts presented in the trial, and the testimonies of witnesses, this case originated from assumptions that were forced into an image of a criminal act under the Law Number 19 of 2016 on Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions, and/or Article 310, 311 of the Criminal Code," he explained.
"What's even worse is that in the video reported by the complainant, according to the statements made by the complainant during the police interrogation as stated in the examination record related to Galih Ginanjar's words, it turns out that when the video was played and we watched it together, there was NO evidence or indication that Galih Ginanjar said what was reported by the complainant," Sugiyarto continued.

Furthermore, Sugiyarto stated that Galih is currently feeling nervous about his trial. They have already communicated, and Sugiyarto reassured his client that everything will be fine.
"Maybe he is tense because Galih received the longest sentence yesterday? We've already communicated. It's normal. Basically, we'll see what the verdict is first, and if the verdict doesn't meet our expectations, then we will plan our next legal steps," he explained.

Nevertheless, Sugiyarto cannot confirm whether they have decided to appeal or not. Today they will still observe the trial process, then decide the next steps.
"What is clear is that if the verdict does not meet our expectations, then we are ready to take further legal action in accordance with the existing laws and regulations.
Therefore, our optimism is based on the Reporter's Report which is then stated in the Examination Report which is a legal defect because it does not match the legal facts themselves. And everything that is legally defective must be free for the sake of justice," he said.
