While performing the Hajj pilgrimage, Kartika Putri uploaded a video about the escalator in Mecca that is often used to create content.
The video quickly caught public attention because her husband, Habib Usman Bin Yahya, stated that creating content there is uncultured, like villagers.
Kartika and Habib Usman immediately received criticism from netizens who said it was inappropriate to be critical while performing religious duties. In response, the couple stated that they had no intention of mocking anyone.
"Habib doesn't use social media. So, Habib didn't know that the escalator went viral. Why did Habib say it's tacky because there are many escalators in our country. He didn't know that the escalator went viral," said Kartika, who was met at her residence in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Thursday (20/6/2024).
Furthermore, Habib Usman Bin Yahya said that the comment about the escalator reflexively came out of his mouth. Because he is used to using that word to comment on things that he finds strange.
"I am originally from Kampung Melayu. For example, if there is something like 'Hey, don't be so much like a person from Kampung Melayu'. That's because I am indeed from the village, and our language is like that. I don't understand at all (about going viral)," added Habib.
Kartika Putri and Habib Usman Bin Yahya admitted that they have no intention of seeking sensation. Moreover, if the post ends up undermining her husband.
"Habib is indeed super sensitive. And I didn't post it with the intention of undermining my husband. My intention in posting it was to entertain. All of my content is intended to entertain," Kartika firmly said.
Kartika also apologizes if the content makes people unhappy.
"We are not worried because we know our intentions, Allah knows the intentions. But if it is disturbing and offending anyone, I apologize. We don't have such intentions," she added.
