Dahlia Poland and Fandy Christian Divorce in Religious Court, It Turns Out They Were Married Islamically

In the midst of her divorce process with Fandy Christian, a fact that is not widely known to the public has finally been revealed. The divorce petition filed by Dahlia Poland is registered in the Religious Court (PA), not the District Court (PN) as many might have imagined.

This certainly raises significant questions about the actual status of their marriage. This mystery was ultimately clarified by Dahlia Poland's attorney, Wayan Vajra Fhany Jaya.

In his explanation, Wayan confirmed that the first hearing has been held and both parties, Dahlia and Fandy, will soon meet in a mediation session on September 16.

"Indeed, the first hearing was the summoning of the parties, so Mr. Fandy was present through his representative. Therefore, the official report of the mediation is dated September 2, but next week on the 16th there will be another mediation between the parties. So Ms. Dahlia and Mr. Fandy will meet to talk," said Wayan at a virtual press conference on Tuesday (12/7/2025).

However, the main focus is on the reason for filing the lawsuit in the Religious Court. Apparently, the determination of the court for divorce cases depends on how the marriage was conducted in the beginning.

"So, regarding the competency of authority in the court, especially in divorce cases, it is regulated based on how the marriage was conducted. Now, Ms. Dahlia and Mr. Fandy's marriage was conducted in a Muslim manner," he said.

Furthermore, he explained that this rule does not change even if one party converts to another belief later on. This decision refers to the results of the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Supreme Court.

"We are referring to the results of the Supreme Court's Rakernas that the authority does not automatically transfer if the parties change their religion," said Wayan.

"So we still refer to how the marriage was conducted. So at that time, Ms. Dahlia and Mr. Fandy were married in a Muslim way, and then after some time, the marriage returned to the religion," he concluded.
