Deddy Mizwar Says Ray Sahetapy Experienced Amnesia Before Passing Away, Had Difficulty Communicating

Sad news envelops the Indonesian film industry with the passing of senior actor Ray Sahetapy. Before his death, Ray was reported to have experienced amnesia and difficulty communicating. This was revealed by his friend and fellow actor, Deddy Mizwar.

"Yes, I heard from friends (about Ray's passing). Because a few months ago, my friends and I visited him at his home in Kelapa Gading, he had already forgotten a lot, was experiencing amnesia, and had difficulty communicating. Given that, we just prayed because it was already hard for him to return to his former self," said Deddy Mizwar when met at the funeral home Sentosa (Gatot Subroto) Block C, Thursday (3/4/2025).

According to Deddy, Ray Sahetapy's health condition has drastically declined for the past few months. Even when visited with other friends, Ray was already having difficulty recognizing the people around him. "Yes, about three months ago, we visited his house in a large group, he was already sick, and it was difficult to talk to him," he revealed.

The illness that causes Ray Sahetapy's amnesia is not known for sure. However, according to Deddy Mizwar, at that time they came to visit Ray after attending Bu Tati Malyati's birthday in Kelapa Gading.

"No, I don't know. It was just after Bu Tati Malyati's birthday in Kelapa Gading, we, the college friends, took the initiative to visit him right away. It was already difficult to talk, he didn't recognize people," he said.

Ray Sahetapy is known as a talented actor with a long career journey in the world of film and theater. Deddy Mizwar, who has shared the stage with the late Ray, remembers him as a serious figure in the arts.

"The late one was serious, yes, I acted in many films with him. Some films were good, and some were mediocre, hahaha. There were many comedies as well as more serious ones like 'Opera Jakarta'," said Deddy Mizwar.

Although he experienced amnesia in the last years of his life, Ray Sahetapy is still remembered as a knowledgeable figure who often discussed with his colleagues. Deddy Mizwar also hopes that the late one finds the best place by God's side.
