Don Verhaag's Speech Development Surprises Jessica Iskandar, Becoming More Talkative and Active in Asking Questions

Don Azaiah Jan Verhaag's 3rd birthday not only marks a moment of celebration but also reflection for Jessica Iskandar and Vincent Verhaag on their son's rapid growth and development. One of the most striking aspects is Don's speech development that has left them both amazed.

When met in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (7/5/2025), Jessica admitted that she is often surprised by the sentences coming out of Don's mouth, which she thinks sound like a big kid.

"Yes, he is now asking a lot of questions, 'what is that?', 'why is it like that?'. He also often says, 'wait, Don wants this first'. As parents, we are often surprised, 'huh, he is talking like this now?'," said Jessica while laughing.

"Yes, Don has really become very talkative now, and he looks strong and brave when he's outside. But at home, he is very spoiled with us and also tends to be shy," she added.

According to Jessica, Don's verbal development is one of the signs that he is starting to be ready to build more complex interactions with his environment. "He's still a little kid, this is an important phase for him to learn communication and express feelings. So we really take care and support him continuously," explained Jessica.

Vincent Verhaag also affirmed that Don can now communicate back and forth smoothly. According to him, this makes the relationship between parents and child even closer. "At the age of 3, he can engage in two-way conversations, and communication is becoming more connected. That's something we are really grateful for," said Vincent.

Jessica also revealed that Don has a unique way of expressing his wishes, which often leaves both her and Vincent amazed and amused at the same time. "Sometimes he likes to act all grown-up when he talks. Like, 'Don wants to take a break, I'm tired.' We end up thinking, 'Where did this kid hear that?'," said Jessica.

Don's rapid development has made Jessica and Vincent even more excited to provide appropriate stimulation, including through games and reading that expand the child's vocabulary. "We always try to engage him in conversation, read together, or play games that can encourage him to talk. The effects are really noticeable," said Jessica.
