Ahmad Dhani is known as one of the legendary musicians in the country with a plethora of works that are widely recognized. Although his personal life often attracts controversy, this biological father of five children remains a respected figure in the music scene of the country. Born in Surabaya, Ahmad Dhani has a Sundanese father named Eddy Abdul Manaf. Dhani's father is from Garut, the same as the hometown of Mulan Jameela.

Ahmad Dhani's great-grandfather on his mother's side, Jan Pieter Friederich Kohler, was of German descent born in the Dutch East Indies in 1883.

While studying at SMPN 6 Surabaya, Dhani met Andra Ramadhan, who became the guitarist of the band he founded. To this day, Andra Ramadhan remains loyal to Dhani in Dewa 19.

Throughout his career, Dhani has created more than 200 songs that have been sung by various artists such as Reza Artamevia, Anang Hermansyah, Ari Lasso, Judika, Agnes Monica, Ratu, Mulan Jameela, and others.

Ahmad Dhani also enjoys jazz. He has collaborated with jazz musicians in Australia. There are four jazz songs on the album The Rock, and in April 2009, he released the album 100% Jazz titled The Best Is Yet To Come with Dhani and the Swinger, a side project he formed.
