First Hearing of Drug Abuse Allegation Case Held, Jeff Smith Admits Regret Using Marijuana

Kapanlagi.com - The first hearing of the drug abuse allegation case involving Jeff Smith was held at the West Jakarta District Court today (28/7/2021). The hearing immediately addressed three agendas, namely the reading of the indictment, hearing witness testimony, and examining the defendant.

The reading of the indictment was presented by Miranda Sembiring as the Public Prosecutor. Jeff was charged under Article 111 Paragraph 1 and Article 127 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a penalty of four to twelve years in prison.

Then, in the agenda of hearing witness testimony, two police officers who were involved in the arrest were brought in. They stated that they had conducted surveillance based on public information before approaching the actor and finding the evidence.

Regarding the witness testimony, Jeff, who attended the hearing via WhatsApp video call, stated that he had no objections. Thus, the hearing proceeded with the examination of the defendant.

1. Regret Consuming Marijuana

During the defendant's examination, the girlfriend of Aisyah Aqilah stated that she consumed marijuana for inner peace. She expressed regret for using it.

"(Using marijuana) to calm myself. That's what I felt. I regret it, sir," said Jeff when asked by the judge, as quoted by KapanLagi.com during the trial.

The next hearing will be held on August 4, 2021, with the agenda of reading the charges. The legal counsel also hopes that the final outcome will proceed as expected.

"The next hearing will directly proceed to the charges, so we had a consecutive agenda. Just pray that the charges are good and the decision can be rehabilitated so that Jeff can reintegrate into society soon. He can resume his activities. Because he is one of the talented artists," concluded Aldi Surya Kusumah, Jeff's legal counsel, after the trial.
