Submit Plea, Lawyer Hopes Jennifer Jill Can Receive Rehabilitation Sentence

Kapanlagi.com - The trial of the drug abuse case involving Jennifer Jill was held again on Monday (26/7/2021). The agenda of this trial was the reading of the indictment by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) against Jennifer Jill.

The JPU requested the judge to sentence the wife of actor Ajun Perwira to 6 months in prison for being proven guilty of violating Article 127 paragraph 1 (a) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009.

Sahala Siahaan, Jennifer's lawyer, submitted a plea or defense note against the indictment of the Public Prosecutor. The plea is planned to be read in the next Monday's trial (2/8/2021).

In the plea, Sahala will try to convince the panel of judges to give his client a rehabilitation verdict instead of imprisonment.

"Our concern is that the user should be rehabilitated. In our defense, we will fight for the best option, which is rehabilitation," Sahala said at the West Jakarta District Court on Monday (26/7/2021).

Sahala is confident that the panel of judges will consider his plea. He refers to the circular letter of the Supreme Court No. 4 of 2010 regarding the placement of drug abusers, victims, and addicts in medical and social rehabilitation institutions.

"Because the spirit is the same as the Supreme Court, the drug law states that 1 gram is punishable by rehabilitation. That a user, a victim, should be rehabilitated," Sahala said.

Sahala continued, he is worried that if Jennifer Jill is sentenced to prison, his client will not be able to recover from drug addiction.

"How can she recover if she is not rehabilitated while there are no rehabilitation facilities in prison," he said.

In the reading of the indictment, the Public Prosecutor requested the Judge to sentence Jennifer Jill to 6 months in prison for being proven guilty of violating Article 127 paragraph 1(a) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009.

In addition, in the indictment, the Prosecutor also requested the Judge to issue an order for Jennifer Jill to undergo medical rehabilitation for three months.
