If Testimony in Domestic Violence Trial is False, Karen Pooroe Can Report Marshanda to the Police

Kapanlagi.com - The trial of domestic violence allegations against Arya Claproth against singer Karen Pooroe was held again at the Bandung District Court on Tuesday (16/2). In the trial, Marshanda was brought in as a witness on Arya's behalf.

The arrival of the soap opera actress as a witness, revealed by Wemmy Amanapunyo as Karen's legal counsel, is very reasonable. Because Arya has the right to bring anyone to lighten his punishment.

"As a legal person, I can say that it is legitimate for Mas Arya to bring in Marshanda to make a statement under oath. I see her as a mitigating witness, but it ultimately depends on the judge's authority," said Wemmy when met by KapanLagi.com in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/2/2021).

1. Questioning Marshanda's Defense

In her testimony, Karen Pooroe felt that Marshanda made untrue statements. In fact, those statements are not relevant to the domestic violence case that she is currently going through.

"The last time I met (Marshanda) was in 2015, and I have had no further contact with her. So, the only person who has had contact with her is Mr. Arya, as if there were four people in my household. How do they know that? How do they know the story? Clearly, my household assistant is a witness to the domestic violence that occurred there. If it didn't happen, how could there be a police report (P21), how could it reach the prosecutor's office, how could it reach the court?" Karen firmly stated.

2. Marshanda Can Be Reported to the Police

In her testimony, Marshanda stated that Karen Pooroe attempted suicide twice. One of the reasons for this intention was confusion over paying the accompanying band.

Since it is not true, Wemmy Amanapunyo as the legal representative can take this matter to the legal realm, especially if this testimony harms her client.

"The definition of a witness is someone who sees, hears, feels, and even knows that an event has occurred. She (Marshanda) said domestic violence is impossible. If it's impossible, why would a police report be filed? There is video evidence. And the prosecutor would not recklessly accept a case without strong evidence. If it has reached P21, this case is already valid for trial," Wemmy emphasized.

"If Marshanda makes that statement to defend Arya, we don't know what lies behind it. We're not accusing anyone. But making such a statement, our client also has the right to respond. (If the testimony is false, we will take legal action), of course. Later, I will ask Ms. Karen to file a police report if it is indeed untrue," Wemmy concluded.
