Ivan Gunawan Chooses Friends Carefully Since Becoming More Religious, Only Wants to Associate with Good People

On an occasion at Jalan Percetakan Negara, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (12/7/2025), Ivan Gunawan shared his views on the importance of an environment in shaping a person's character.

1. Changes After Hajj Are Not Pretended

According to him, there is no pretended change in himself. Everything happens naturally along with aging, which makes him want to be wiser.

"There’s nothing pretended, actually there’s nothing made up. Well, if alhamdulillah as I get older I can be wiser, more wise, alhamdulillah," he said.

2. How Igun Approaches Wisdom

This 43-year-old man realizes that everyone's path to becoming wiser is indeed different. However, one of the key factors is placing oneself in a positive environment.

"The way people approach wisdom is indeed different, right?" he added.

3. Wanting to Associate with Good People

Igun analogizes it very simply. According to him, if someone wants to be good, they must associate with good people. The same goes the other way around.

"Right, if we want to be good people, we should hang out with good people, right?" he asked rhetorically.

4. The Social Environment Determines Life Direction

It provides a clearer example to emphasize its point. The social environment is considered very influential in determining the direction of a person's life.

"If we want to be a drunkard, we hang out with drunkards; if we want to be a drug user, we hang out with drug users, so that getting the stuff is easy," Igun explained.

5. Decide on Your Social Circle

The decision to choose an environment, for Igun, is a conscious choice to determine the path of life he wants to take moving forward.

"So it depends on where we want to be," he concluded, emphasizing that he has chosen his own path.

Ivan Gunawan expressed his deep gratitude through a post on his personal Instagram in early June 2025. He admitted to being moved when he realized that the entire series of Hajj rituals had been completed. According to him, that was the most touching moment in his spiritual journey.

He shared that in the solitude of his hotel room, his heart was filled with sincere gratitude: "From the depths of my heart, I want to express my gratitude for the blessings that Allah SWT has given". Ivan hopes that his worship is accepted, brings blessings, and leads to positive changes in his life after returning to his homeland.
