Karina Ranau Has Forgiven the Perpetrator, But the Assault Case Remains Processed Until Court

Kapanlagi.com - After experiencing assault, Karina Ranau chose to continue the legal process against the alleged perpetrator of the assault she experienced, even though she has personally forgiven them. Through her legal counsel, Karina emphasized that the legal process must continue as a form of fulfilling the victim's rights and also to provide a deterrent effect.

Karina's lawyer, Hendro Widodo, stated that his client does not want the case to be resolved merely through reconciliation if it does not provide a sense of justice.

"However, our client as a human has forgiven the perpetrator, but in the legal process, our client still seeks justice because the fulfillment of rights that our client means is when the perpetrator is also punished to be held accountable for their mistakes and becomes a lesson for Indonesian society," said Hendro Widodo when met at the Pancoran Police Station, South Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

Hendro explained that the mechanism of Restorative Justice has certain requirements that have been regulated in legal provisions. The decision regarding the possible application of this mechanism is entirely entrusted to Karina as the victim.

"Yes, regarding RJ (Restorative Justice), the requirements for RJ have indeed been regulated. For example, it is not a first-time offense, then there is forgiveness, and there is restoration of the victim's rights. Well, that is what we fully entrust to the client," he stated.

To strengthen the investigation process, Karina's side will also present four witnesses in the near future so that the case can quickly move to the investigation stage and the determination of suspects.

"God willing, this Thursday we will present four witnesses here directly so that the process can continue to the investigation and the perpetrator can be designated as a suspect, more or less like that," Hendro explained.

In addition, Hendro hopes that the public and the media will also monitor the legal process so that the case can be resolved transparently and provide a sense of justice for the victim.
