Kapanlagi.com - Do you remember the case involving Gen Halilintar? It started with a cover of the song Lagi Syantik, which ended up in a lawsuit. Now, PT. Nagaswara's lawsuit against Gen Halilintar, the copyright holder of Lagi Syantik popularized by Siti Badriah, has ended sweetly.
On December 23, 2021, the Supreme Court ordered Gen Halilintar to pay Rp. 300 million to Nagaswara for recycling the song by changing the lyrics, producing and commercializing it without permission.
"This is a struggle that has borne fruit. From the district court to the Supreme Court," said Rayahu Kertwiguna in Jakarta on Thursday (19/5/2022).
According to Rahayu during the Central Jakarta District Court, winning Gen Halilintar's case at that time would have made copyright justice feel dead.
"Copyright is no longer something sacred as mandated by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia," she said.
Rahayu hopes that the victory will make people smarter in dealing with the difference between covering a song and changing its lyrics without permission and then commercializing it.
"We are grateful that the sword of justice is still sharp and can see in the darkness. In late December 2021, the Supreme Court at the PK (Judicial Review) level granted PT Nagaswara Publisherindo's lawsuit against Gen Halilintar regarding the copyright infringement of the song Lagi Syantik," she continued.
To prevent similar cases from happening, Rahayu appreciates the birth of Suara Festival, a platform that bridges the community with songwriters to ensure safety from a legal standpoint for the public to cover.
"Currently, there are already 13,000 song catalogs. This platform is free. The licensing procedure is also very easy. We will provide usage reports, so that accountability to the songwriters can also be fulfilled," said Bagus Trisakti, CEO of Suara Festival.
