Pandji Pragiwaksono's Response to 'Mens Rea' Material Receives 6 Police Reports, Admits Not Afraid!

As is known, there have been 6 reports directed at the Mens Rea material. Nevertheless, Pandji admitted he is not deterred, because from the beginning there was no malicious intent. "I intended to make people laugh, so for me, I'm not deterred. As long as I open a space for discussion and I am taught by my older brothers here, I am taught to continue opening a dialog space, so because I am a comedian who comes from a good intention, if asked to explain the data I have from a good place, there is no reason to be deterred," concluded Pandji.

In the Mens Rea material, Pandji briefly discussed Raffi Ahmad. When asked by reporters if he had met him, Pandji mentioned that there is no discussion yet. "But it seems he is doing just fine," he concluded.

The Mens Rea material has its pros and cons, and many netizens have attacked Pandji and his family. However, Pandji has no plans to report them. For him, everyone has the right to express their opinion.

Pandji also explained the reason why his stand-up material discusses politics. He explained that stand-up is created for the public, not just for himself.

"If I create stand-up material for myself, the only one laughing would be me. This means that whatever I present on stage, when it is showcased in a performance, it is because it represents the concerns of many people and it can make a lot of people laugh. When that laughter is created, it means they understand, they find it funny," he explained. 

"All comedians, all stand-up performers, when creating a show do not design it for themselves, but for the public. Thus, what is on stage is a reflection of the audience that watches them," Pandji continued.

Haris Azhar, the legal counsel for Pandji, explained that from a legal standpoint that he believes and has studied, that expression becomes a criminal act if it advocates a practice or campaigns for violence, or invites violence, or encourages a practice that falls into the category of criminal acts under other articles.

"What happened to Pandji, thank God, everyone laughed. So simply, I give you that one key. If freedom of expression is used to invite people, educate people, or facilitate the occurrence of criminal acts or violence, then that is what is not allowed. In human rights, it is stated that freedom of expression must not be used to mobilize practices of genocide, for example, that is not allowed," explained Haris Azhar.
