Despite being in mourning, the Mukherjee family continues the Durga Puja tradition that has been ongoing for decades. Together with her sister Tanishaa Mukherjee, her cousin Rani Mukherjee, and director Ayan Mukherjee, Kajol attended their family's pandal in Mumbai. They all wore traditional Bengali clothing and carried out the entire series of puja with reverence.

"This year is very emotionally difficult. We lost three people in our family, so coming to the pandal is very heavy," Kajol told Times of India.

This Durga Puja has a special meaning as it marks the 75th year of the Mukherjee family puja tradition. Rani Mukherjee said, "This is a very special moment because our family puja has reached 75 years. This tradition is part of our identity as Bengali people," she told News18.

One figure who is greatly missed this year is Deb Mukherjee, Kajol and Rani's uncle who usually led the preparations for the family Durga Puja. Deb Mukherjee passed away in March 2025, and his departure left a huge void. "We feel that we are continuing Deb Kaka's dream," said Tanishaa, as quoted by the Times of India.

The atmosphere at the pandal was filled with a mix of emotions between grief and pride. Kajol was seen holding back tears several times while offering anjali (flower offerings) to Goddess Durga. However, she still greeted visitors and journalists with a warm smile, showing strength amidst the loss. Rani also appeared graceful and humble, often seen hugging family members and sharing stories.

Although full of sorrow, Kajol and Rani still show that tradition and the strength of women remain strong. Like the spirit of Durga herself, they face sadness with courage, while preserving the family cultural heritage. As Rani said, "This prayer is not just about prayer, but about family, love, and honoring those who have passed away."
