Rendy Kjaernett Remembers His Father's Advice and Regrets Over Their Last Moments Together

Kapanlagi.com - Actor Rendy Kjaernett, who only met his father at the age of 27, reminisces about the valuable advice given by Ernest Kjaernett. His father always taught him not to view problems as heavy burdens, whether they are big or small.

"Dad always said that when you see a problem, don’t take it too heavily, whether it’s big or small, it’s just a problem. Dad gave me a way to think and a positive way of living that I took," said Rendy Kjaernett at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Sunday (5/1/2025).

Before reuniting with his father, the wife of Lady Nayoan had already forgiven all the mistakes that happened in the past. She feels grateful because there is no longer any feeling of resentment or burden, even though their relationship had just been re-established after a long time.

"I’m grateful that I had already forgiven him, long before I met him, I had forgiven him, I had forgiven a long time ago, there’s nothing left," she said.

1. Expressing Regret

However, there is one thing that still remains a regret for Rendy, which is not being able to be by his father's side when he was ill. He feels that he should have paid more attention to his father's condition, considering that his father had fought his illness alone without help from the family.

"Maybe what I regret is when I talked to my brother, 'why at the moment he was sick, we weren't there.' If only we had thought a little, it wouldn't have hurt to think, 'maybe I could go there, I could bring him here, he didn't have to be alone there.' That's the regret," he expressed.

Nonetheless, the relationship between Rendy and his father was very good towards the end of Ernest's life. Rendy felt that their relationship had become closer and more harmonious after their reunion that occurred after years of being apart.

"The relationship was good," said Rendy.

2. Surprising Interaction

Rendy's wife, Lady Nayoan, also observed Rendy's relationship with his father. She was surprised to see Rendy's warm interaction with Ernest, even though it wasn't particularly romantic. Lady noted that although the father-son relationship was not like the typical father-son bond, they still knew each other and maintained their closeness.

"I was shocked to see Rendy having fun with his dad. But it wasn't romantic like a typical boy's romantic relationship, it was just a mutual understanding," said Lady Nayoan, describing Rendy's interaction with his father.

Lady also explained that at the beginning of the new year, she already knew that Ernest was ill. However, she felt relieved to see that there was someone else accompanying the late Ernest at that time, even though she knew Rendy might feel sad for not being able to be by his father's side more.

"At the beginning of the new year, as far as I know, he was already sick, and then we had a video call on the 2nd, I saw that his dad already had someone with him. I see that his dad has been focused on himself and Rendy is already grown up in his eyes," said Lady.

3. A Close Bond

Rendy also acknowledged that although their relationship does not resemble the typical father-son dynamic, they still share a fairly deep connection. Even though they did not have much time to get to know each other better, Rendy feels that their bond has developed well.

"Maybe it's brief, I don't know my dad like a normal child knows their father, but our relationship is quite close and good," said Rendy.

Ernest Kjarnett passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 80 in Hua Hin, Thailand. Before his passing, Ernest struggled with various health issues, including Alzheimer's and liver failure. Rendy is currently handling the cremation process and related administration regarding his father's passing, and plans to bring Ernest's ashes to Jakarta.
