Respect Legal Rights, Doctor Richard Lee Appreciates Polda Metro Jaya

The legal counsel of Doctor Richard Lee expressed appreciation to Polda Metro Jaya during the pretrial hearing held at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (4/2/2026). This is related to the police's decision to temporarily postpone the examination process against the doctor while the pretrial hearing is still ongoing.

This action by the police is seen as a form of respect for the legal rights of Doctor Richard Lee. According to the legal team, this procedure should indeed be followed considering the new regulations in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

"Yes, that's right, in the new Criminal Procedure Code, when there is a pretrial request, we must wait for the results of the pretrial decision first. Therefore, we appreciate the Metro Jaya Police for respecting the rights that we have exercised and submitted," said Jefri at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (4/2/2026).

The third day of the trial is still focused on the agenda of the respondent's response to the objections raised by Doctor Richard Lee. The legal team stated that they still need to study the written response provided by the police before preparing evidence for the next session.

"Today's agenda is the submission of the response from the respondent (Metro Jaya Police) regarding our request. This is the second day of the trial for the pretrial," explained Jefri.

Regarding the reason for filing this lawsuit, Jefri emphasized that his client only wants to exercise his legal rights to the fullest. He denied that this step is considered a form of his client's inability to accept the reality of the suspect status that has been assigned.

"Once again I repeat, this is not a matter of being able to accept or not being able to accept. This is a matter of rights. Rights that are regulated in the Code of Criminal Procedure. Well, since it is regulated in the KUHAP, it can be used and it can also not be used," Jefri stated firmly.

The legal representatives chose not to discuss the core material of the trial with the public excessively. They prefer to prove all their legal arguments in front of the judge rather than engage in opinion battles in the mass media.

"A lawyer fights in the police, the prosecutor's office, and the court. Therefore, we exercise our rights and we will test and prove it in court. We will not present our materials in the media because we will wait for the proof process later," concluded Jefri.
