Ruben Onsu Only Trained Twice Before Raising the Flag in the Shark Aquarium, Reveals the Biggest Challenge

Kapanlagi.com - The bravery of Ruben Onsu in raising the flag inside an aquarium filled with dozens of sharks at Sea World Ancol, North Jakarta, on Sunday (17/8/2025). Although the act appeared perfect, this father of three revealed that he did not have much time to practice.

This fact makes his action even more special, considering the risks he faced were not trivial. When asked about his preparation process, Ruben Onsu honestly stated that special training at the main location, the shark pool, was only done twice. The rest of the time, he and the team practiced more in a large pool with obviously different conditions.

1. Preparation for a Moment

"If the preparation is probably very brief, basically for this shark pool it's only two training sessions, the rest is in the big pool," said Ruben Onsu.

This limited training time certainly poses its own challenges. Ruben has to quickly adapt to the unusual underwater environment, water pressure, and the presence of marine animals around him. Moreover, he is not using standard diving equipment like fins, which makes his movements heavier and harder to control.

2. Difficulties Faced

Ruben explained the details of the difficulties he faced while moving in the water without the help of fins. According to him, simply walking on the bottom of the aquarium requires extra energy and extraordinary body control.

"The difficulty is indeed because we are not using fins, you know. So, we have to control it, it looks like it’s slow. Oh, but just moving forward is difficult, moving the legs is really hard," said Ruben.

"So, everything follows the count. So we can go together. Earlier, before the training, I initially wanted to go down first, but never mind, let's just go straight down," Ruben added.

3. Cohesion is the Key to Success

Despite minimal preparation and significant technical challenges, Ruben and the team successfully carried out their tasks well. Cohesion and focus were the main keys to their success. Ruben also did not forget to express his appreciation to the entire Sea World team who supported him from start to finish.

"Everything went on with wisdom and also focus from my friends, let’s give a round of applause for my friends from Sea World, amazing. Yes, it went as planned, amen," he concluded.
