Sarwendah's Story: Embracing Her Father's Photo During the Cremation, Admits It's Not an Easy Thing

Behind the strength shown to the public, Sarwendah is still unable to fully accept the departure of her father, Hendrik Lo. During the cremation moment, this former wife of Ruben Onsu could only tightly embrace the photo of the deceased while holding back her tears.

It turns out that holding her father's photo is not an easy thing for Sarwendah. A few days earlier, she deliberately avoided looking at that photo due to her deep sorrow.

"Yes, it's heavy. I also don't know if one day I have to hold his photo. Because since yesterday I intentionally didn't want to see the photo because every time I see it, I always think about it, it makes me sad for sure," said Sarwendah when met at the Grand Heaven funeral home, West Jakarta, Wednesday (23/7/2025).

In that saddest moment, Sarwendah could only 'talk' to her late father through prayers and whispers of the heart. Sarwendah also promised to take care of her mother as best as she could.

"So when I was just talking in my heart with Dad earlier, I hope Dad's journey goes smoothly, everything is fine, and I just told Dad, 'Don't worry, we're here, Mom will definitely be taken care of well,'" she said.

The feeling of loss is more pronounced when Sarwendah is alone at home. The night is the hardest moment because many small memories suddenly emerge.

"When I'm at home and my child is already asleep, being alone still feels sad. Because sometimes Dad also stays over at home. If he stays over, he will definitely come into my room to check, 'Is my child asleep yet?' If not, he will surely chat with me," she said.

Now, Sarwendah is trying to learn to be sincere. However, this 37-year-old woman says her sadness still often arises and it takes time to fully accept it.

"So there's still a feeling of sadness, but I have to be sincere. Well, that's the feeling I still need to digest," she said.

For Sarwendah, her parents are role models in all household matters. Their harmony is an inspiration that she always holds onto.

"Of course, that's my dream from a long time ago, my reference when going through a household relationship is the harmony of my parents. I am proud that everyone sees my parents as very friendly and harmonious people," she concluded.
