SBY Remembers Titiek Puspa as a Cultural Hero: Creating Relentlessly for Indonesia

The 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), was present at the funeral home to pay his last respects to the late Titiek Puspa. The legendary figure in the arts of the homeland passed away on Thursday (10/4/2025) at the age of 87 after being treated intensively at Medistra Hospital.

SBY's presence at the funeral home in South Jakarta on Friday (11/4/2025) was a tangible expression of the deep sorrow he felt over the departure of someone he referred to as a maestro across eras. "Yes, we have lost a cultural hero, if I may say so, Mrs. Titiek Puspa, who can be said to have dedicated her life to the world of art, culture, and even social issues," said SBY when met in South Jakarta, Friday (11/4/2025).

According to SBY, Titiek Puspa's spirit and dedication to the world of art are extraordinary. He referred to the singer of the song Kupu-Kupu Malam as a figure who never tires of serving the beloved nation through the path of culture.

Not only known by the general public, Titiek Puspa also left a profound impression among the nation's leaders. SBY revealed that Titiek Puspa's presence has colored various eras of government from the time of President Sukarno to President Prabowo Subianto.

"He seems to never tire of dedicating himself to our beloved Indonesia," he said.

"This can be said to be a maestro, a musician, an artist across generations from time to time, starting from the era of President Soekarno, President Suharto, President Habibie, President Abdurrahman Wahid, President Megawati, during my time, President Jokowi and President Prabowo," said SBY.

During his tenure as President of the Republic of Indonesia, SBY admitted to meeting Titiek Puspa several times, especially at various events related to art and culture. In each of those meetings, he always witnessed the extraordinary spirit and energy of the figure affectionately called Eyang Titiek.   "He seems to never tire of dedicating himself to our beloved Indonesia," he said again.

SBY feels that the departure of Titiek Puspa is a great loss, not only for the arts but also for the Indonesian nation. He also prays that the deceased finds the best place beside God Almighty.   "Yes, we have lost a cultural hero," he stated.
