Sekar Arum Widara Arrested for Circulating Counterfeit Money, Previously Escaped in Initial Transactions

Former artist Sekar Arum Widara (SAW) was arrested by the South Jakarta Metro Police after being caught using counterfeit money to shop at a mall in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/4/2025). The arrest was made after she repeatedly attempted to transact using fake Rp100 thousand bills.

"So indeed we have secured and detained a woman with the initials SAW with a witness who claims to be SAW's unofficial husband," said Kompol Nurma Dewi when met at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Monday (14/4/2025).

Commissioner Nurma explained that the first transaction was made by the perpetrator by buying food and snacks. At that time, the counterfeit money used passed inspection and the transaction was successfully completed.

However, in the next transaction, the perpetrator's attempt was halted after the cashier conducted an inspection with a UV light machine. The cashier became suspicious and immediately canceled the transaction because the money used was suspected to be counterfeit.

"After that, he went shopping again and made a payment that raised suspicion with both cashiers, who then canceled the transaction," Nurma explained.

Not giving up, Sekar tried to make a transaction at another store with the same money. This time, she purchased household appliances worth more than Rp1 million, but the payment failed because the cashier detected counterfeit money again.

From the examination results, the police confiscated 2,235 sheets of counterfeit money in denominations of Rp100 thousand, equivalent to Rp223.5 million, from Sekar's boarding house, not far from the scene of the incident."The money confiscated from SAW is Rp223.5 million," emphasized Nurma.

The suspect is now detained at the South Jakarta Metro Police's Ranmor Unit and has been designated as a suspect since April 4, 2025. Investigators are still exploring whether Sekar acted alone or is part of a larger counterfeit money distribution syndicate.
