Therefore, Vicky, who was convicted on September 9, filed an appeal to the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (September 15, 2021).
"During the process since the verdict, Vicky performed istikharah prayer and finally decided to file an appeal," said Ramdan Alamsyah, Vicky's lawyer in Tangerang, on Thursday (September 16, 2021).

When asked about the reason for filing an appeal, Vicky Prasetyo, who was standing next to Ramdan Alamsyah, admitted that it was not because he was afraid of serving the remaining sentence in prison. Instead, it was because he wanted to fight for what has been taught in his religion.
"This is not about the punishment that I have to endure. Because if we talk about mathematics, I have already served a sentence of 2 months and 10 days. So, the remaining time that I have to serve is only 1 month and 20 days, without considering any reductions," said Vicky.
"I am appealing because I want to fight for my beliefs that are discussed in the letter An-Nisa. I just want to fight for the idea that a wife bringing another man into the bedroom is wrong. And a husband gets angry because he wants to defend his dignity when he sees his wife with another man, that is not a crime," said Vicky.
Vicky is concerned that if he does not make an appeal, his case will become a precedent for married women to freely bring "men" into their rooms.
"I am afraid that from my case, married women will easily say, 'Let's just have an affair, we can go to a hotel and if our husbands get angry, it will be clear who will be arrested.' This, in my opinion, is a moral decay and this is what I am fighting for," said Vicky.
According to Vicky, his struggle in pursuing this appeal has received support from his friends from the santri community and also from his wife, Kalina Ocktaranny.
Moreover, Kalina also asked about her husband's issue to Ustaz Wijayanto.
"Even until death, I will defend my husband. Because my husband is right. Because I have asked Ustaz Wijayanto. I asked, is it allowed for a wife to bring a man who is not a mahram into the house? Ustaz said, let alone adult men, even young children are not allowed if the husband does not permit it," said Kalina.
