Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison, Vadel Badjideh Files an Appeal

The defendant Vadel Badjideh, through his legal counsel, stated that he would file an appeal after being sentenced to 9 years in prison by the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court. The sentence was handed down in a case of alleged sexual intercourse with a minor and abortion that attracted public attention on Wednesday (1/10/2025).

Vadel Badjideh was found legally and convincingly guilty of committing two criminal acts. First, he intentionally committed deceit and a series of lies to engage in sexual intercourse with the victimized child. Second, Vadel was proven to have performed an abortion on a woman with her consent.

For his actions, Vadel was charged under Article 81 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 82 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, Article 77A paragraph (1) of the Child Protection Law, and Article 348 of the Criminal Code.

"We will appeal, Your Honor," said Vadel Badjideh's legal counsel, Oya Abdul Malik, shortly after the verdict was read at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (1/10/2025).

The panel of judges sentenced Vadel Badjideh to 9 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion.

If the fine cannot be paid, it will be replaced with a prison sentence of 3 months.

"To impose a prison sentence on the defendant for 9 years and a fine of 1 billion rupiah, if the defendant is unable to pay, it will be replaced with a detention sentence of 3 months," said the judge while reading the verdict.

The 9-year prison sentence received by Vadel Badjideh is lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU).

Previously, the prosecutor demanded that Vadel be sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion, with a subsidiary of 6 months in detention.
