Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison, Vadel Badjideh Officially Files an Appeal

The defendant in the case of molestation and sexual intercourse, Vadel Badjideh, has taken further legal action regarding the sentence he received. Through his attorney, Oya Abdul Malik, Vadel officially filed an appeal against the nine-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp 1 billion imposed by the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court.

This step was taken because Vadel's side believes that the panel of judges was not meticulous in considering the legal facts revealed during the trial. The appeal memorandum was officially submitted by the legal team to the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (6/10/2025).

Oya Abdul Malik stated that this appeal is a legal right of his client and this decision was made after a direct discussion with Vadel Badjideh shortly after the verdict was read."Today's agenda is that I am submitting the appeal memorandum. As I mentioned to the panel, we are appealing," said Oya Abdul Malik.

The legal representatives emphasized that there are several crucial facts in the trial, including forensic evidence, which they believe have been overlooked by the panel of judges in making their decision. This is the main basis for them to fight for justice at a higher court.

"The point is to fight for my client's legal rights. Because I believe the panel of judges yesterday in their decision did not adequately consider the legal facts presented in the trial. That's it. Because there is forensic evidence, among other things, how could it be ignored," he asserted.

The decision to appeal is a mutual agreement between Vadel and his legal team, which shows their confidence in obtaining a fairer ruling.

"It was asked by the panel at that time, and Vadel consulted with us and stated the appeal," said Oya.

With this appeal being filed, Vadel Badjideh hopes that the panel of judges at the High Court can examine this case more carefully and reconsider the evidence that they believe was overlooked.

"I’m not saying it’s wrong. I’m just saying the panel was less careful in observing the legal facts during the trial, which blurred the trial facts. Everything is clear. It was read by him. He read it, he decided," he concluded.
