Before becoming a movie, this story was first packaged in a novel with the same title written by Asma Nadia. Eventually, this story was made into an Indonesian romantic drama film released in 2014.
ASSALAMUALAIKUM BEIJING tells the story of a young woman named Asma. One day before her wedding, Asma finds out that her lover is cheating on her. She is hurt and goes to Beijing. There, she meets Zhongwen. Zhongwen's kindness and attention make her open her heart.
Asma's role is played by the beautiful actress Revalina S. Temat. Besides Revalina, this film also stars other popular artists, such as Laudya Cynthia Bella, Morgan Oey, Ibnu Jamil, Desta, Ollyne Apple, Cynthia Ramlan, and Jajang C. Noer.
Asma (Revalina S. Temat) is a Muslim woman from Indonesia who works as a designer at a company in Beijing, China. After being betrayed by her lover, Dewa (Ibnu Jamil), who cheated on her with Anita (Cynthia Ramlan), Asma decides to cancel her marriage with Dewa.
In Beijing, Asma meets Zhongwen (Morgan Oey), a Chinese man who works as a tour guide. Zhongwen is known for his kindness and his interest in Islam.
As time goes by, Asma and Zhongwen become closer and fall in love with each other. However, their relationship is not easy. Zhongwen's family opposes his relationship with Asma because of their religious differences.
Asma and Zhongwen must face various obstacles to maintain their love. These challenges include opposition from Zhongwen's family and the difficulty of maintaining a relationship amidst the geographical distance that separates them.
The film Assalamualaikum Beijing conveys the message about the importance of love, tolerance, and understanding. This story highlights that true love can overcome all obstacles. The film has been successful in the Indonesian market and has received several awards, including the Best Cinema Film award at the 2014 Indonesian Film Festival.
