Aditya Zoni Reveals Challenges of Filming 'MENJELANG MAGRIB 2', Freezing in Mount Papandayan

The film MENJELANG MAGRIB 2: THE WOMAN IN CHAINS is a spin-off of the film MENJELANG MAGRIB that was released in 2022. This film produced by Helroad Films depicts social and economic inequality with the story set in the 1920s, when Indonesia was still known as the Dutch East Indies.

The story is set during the era of Stovia University in the Dutch East Indies. This university produced medical graduates, one of whom was a native named Giandra (Aditya Zoni). He reads the Javasche Courant newspaper about a girl in the village of Karuhun who was chained.

At that time, chaining people who were considered to have mental health issues was part of the healing methods for mental illnesses. The mystical treatment handled by a shaman was in stark contrast to Giandra as a doctor.

Met during the Gala Premier held on Saturday (30/8/2025), Ammar Zoni's younger brother mentioned that to portray the character of a doctor, he had to conduct in-depth research. Fortunately, during the pre-production process, Aditya Zoni was given enough time to explore all the information related to his role.

"Here I am as a doctor to combat the old cultural beliefs of the community, like believing in mysticism, still believing in things that are scientific. That is, of course, in stark contrast to my character as a doctor who always prioritizes logic and medicine. I learned everything, and really delved into the character of a doctor. Fortunately, I have several friends who are doctors, so they taught me directly what a doctor does, how to explain diseases, you know," said Aditya Zoni in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta.

Not only challenges from the character being played, Aditya Zoni also admitted to facing difficulties with the shooting location. In fact, his health condition declined for a few days during the shooting process due to unfavorable weather conditions.

"As for the mystical aspects, thank God everything was fine. It was just the shooting location that was quite challenging. Sometimes we shot on Mount Papandayan, which is indeed cold, and at that time the weather was not good, it kept raining. So, the difficulty was really just in the shooting location. I did experience a drop in health for two days. But we had a deadline, so we had to keep shooting," he said.

Fortunately, all the challenges faced by Aditya Zoni did not hinder the shooting process. He hopes that the film, which will be released in theaters on September 4, can be enjoyed and become an interesting offering for horror enthusiasts in Indonesia.

"Yes, hopefully this film will not only be an entertainment for all of you, but also provide entertainment, and convey moral messages, positive messages that can be taken from this film," concluded Aditya Zoni.
