Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, the Superhero 'SATRIA DEWA GATOTKACA' Remains Faithful to the Epic Mahabharata

Kapanlagi.com - Hanung Bramantyo has been appointed as the director of the superhero film SATRIA DEWA GATOTKACA. This big screen adaptation, starring Rizky Nazar as Gatotkaca, is planned to be the opening title of the Satria Dewa Universe franchise.

Hanung revealed that the story in this film is set in one manwantara or 300 million years after the Mahabharata. Therefore, the Gatotkaca depicted is a reincarnation or the next generation of Gatotkaca who has passed away.

"We assume that one manwantara or 300 million years ago the Mahabharata occurred. So the Pandavas and Kauravas are there. Every manwantara will have significant changes and that's what happened in 2020," said Hanung when met at Kota Kasablanka, South Jakarta, on Sunday (26/1/2020).

"In the first manwantara, the Kauravas lost in the Bharatayuda war. The Pandavas didn't win much because many of them died, including Gatotkaca. Only five Pandavas and one Kaurava survived, who is Aswatama. Now, in the second manwantara, Aswatama wants to make a revolution. The revolution is that all Pandavas with bloodlines must disappear because this world can only be inhabited by the Kauravas," added Zaskia Adya Mecca's husband.

1. Stay According to Protocol

Although there is a rejuvenation of the Mahabharata epic, the scenario written by Rahabi Mandra revealed that it will stay according to protocol. The character Gatotkaca remains the child of Bima and the nephew of Arjuna, there is no change just to add to the excitement.

"The story of this film stands on its own, yes, because we rejuvenate everything. But the basic is one (the Mahabharata epic). So, we can't then make Gatotkaca become Yudistira's child, Gatotkaca is friends with Arjuna, can't do that because they are his uncles. We can't change the protocol as we please. And I am very excited because since I was little, my grandmother told me this fairy tale," said Hanung.

SATRIA DEWA GATOTKACA will start the shooting process in April with an estimated release date around October to December. In addition to Rizky Nazar, this film also stars Yayan Ruhian and newcomer Yasmin Napper.
