In the Midst of the Horror Genre Onslaught, Dina Subono Presents a Breath of Fresh Air Through the Short Film 'DEAR BAPAK'

Kapanlagi.com - Family drama is one of the most popular themes among Indonesian film lovers. It's no wonder that many films explore this theme, especially when it specifically focuses on the relationship between parents and children.

Soon, a similar-themed short film will also be released, namely DEAR BAPAK. The story of this film is written and directed by Dina Subono, a filmmaker who is also a producer, film actress, and disc jockey (DJ).

"The theme of the short film DEAR BAPAK revolves around a father's love for his child. It carries social values such as family, social culture, education, and moral attitudes. This film is born from the diversity of life conflicts in society, seen from the perspective of a father's relationship with his child," said Dina Subono to journalists in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/06).

1. Portrait and Narrative of a Social Phenomenon

Through DEAR BAPAK, Dina tries to capture and narrate a social phenomenon. Responding to and processing the abstract reality of the times into a tangible work that can be seen.

"Hopefully this short film Dear Bapak provides benefits and enlightens us to truly see phenomena and religious diversity in a more wise and prudent way," said the versatile artist who is also a legal consultant, a graduate of S2 Magister Kenotariatan Universitas Pancasila Jakarta.

DEAR BAPAK is produced by Anidkana Films. Production handling is entrusted to Ramacanaa as Executive Producer, as well as Wisnu Heru Luhur and Yunus Fiore as Producers. Director Of Photography is entrusted to Iqbal, Soundman W Oedin Ichsan, and Behind the Scene Immanuel Ardika.

There are three main characters in this film, namely Pak Suban (Dr. Sudibyo JS, S.Sn., M.Sn.), Pak Suban's child; Cinta (Erika), and Cinta's boyfriend; Rama (Jeki).

2. Synopsis of the Movie DEAR BAPAK

The movie DEAR BAPAK tells the story of a woman named Cinta, an only child whose parents are divorced. Cinta lives with her father who is a single parent named Pak Suban. There is an inner conflict that makes Cinta not feel close to her father.

"The storyline is focused on the verbal and non-verbal aspects of the essence and entity of a relationship. It reminds us of every precious moment, and not to be wasted. The importance of expressing love and appreciation before it's too late," said Wisnu Heru Luhur, the film producer.

Wisnu Heru Luhur, a Bachelor of Arts graduate from Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ) majoring in Film, who is currently pursuing his Master's degree at the same campus, feels honored to be able to convey an interesting story from Dina Subono. It's a story about a child's regret and reconciliation towards his father.

"Every moment is an opportunity to love, forgive, and appreciate the people closest to us. Through this film, we hope to touch the hearts of the audience. Reminding them that time is a gift that does not always favor us," he added.

3. Dina Subono's Career Journey

For Dina, film is a literary work in visual form. Through images, Dina aims to portray various connections of experiential elements that serve as the driving force behind the human side.

Prior to this, Dina Subono directed a short film titled TIGA MATA. This short film was included in the Top 60 Finalists of the Indonesian Short Film Festival (ISFF) SCTV 2016.

Next, Dina Subono, a director who is currently completing a Master's Program in Art Governance at the Jakarta Institute of Arts (IKJ), has directed another short film titled CINTANYA CINTA RAGA. This film is the second creation following the success of the short film TIGA MATA, which was Dina Subono's first short film.

Dina Subono admits to remaining focused on creating short films that always offer different perspectives. According to her, short films contain subjective perceptions. They can be paradoxical, absurd, political, and even contain mystical elements.
