Kapanlagi.com - Joko Anwar is preparing Satan's Slaves 3, which internationally titled Satan's Slaves: Origin, as a large-scale genre project. This third film is being developed with the ambition of crossing two continents and using seven languages, making it one of the most massive productions in Southeast Asia.
Currently, the film is still in the pre-production stage and is targeted for release in Indonesian cinemas in 2027. Barunson E&A, the South Korean studio behind the Oscar-winning Parasite, has acquired the international sales rights for Joko Anwar's latest project.

Devil's Advocate 3 comes as a standalone prequel that explores the origins of the cult and the pact with demonic forces, which is the root of the events in the previous two films.
The story begins with a mysterious event of mass hysteria in Strasbourg in the 16th century. This setting is inspired by a real incident recorded in 1518, before the story moves to a haunted lighthouse on the southern coast of Java in the 17th century.
With a timeline and locations spanning continents, the mythology of Devil's Advocate will be expanded more deeply compared to its two predecessors. The story will be told in seven languages: Indonesian, Alsatian, Portuguese, Javanese, Dutch, Turkish, and Latin.
The script and direction are handled directly by Joko Anwar. The production involves Rapi Films along with Joko Anwar's Come and See Pictures, Sky Media, and Legacy Pictures.

Since its reboot in 2017, Pengabdi Setan has evolved into one of the most recognized horror franchises in Indonesia. Its first film became the local film with the highest number of viewers in Indonesia in 2017 and helped boost the popularity of horror in the country.
Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion then brought the scale of the story to a larger level. The film became the first Indonesian film released in IMAX format and is among the six local films with the highest number of viewers of all time in Indonesia.
This time, Pengabdi Setan 3 takes a different approach by revealing how all the terror began.
Joko Anwar describes this project as a pivotal point in his journey, promising to answer the big questions surrounding the curse that has long enveloped the franchise.
"This film is everything that I unknowingly have been building towards this point, a film that finally answers where the curse comes from, why the curse never stops, and what it actually wants. Longtime fans will finally get the answers they have been waiting for all these years, while new viewers will experience an incredible journey," said Joko Anwar.
The global ambition of Pengabdi Setan 3 is reflected in Barunson E&A's involvement in international sales. The studio that brought Parasite to the global market will introduce this project to potential international buyers at the TIFF Market this September.
Barunson E&A CEO Yoonhee Choi believes that the scale of Joko Anwar's latest work is growing, especially as the narrative spans various historical periods and continents.
"Every time we collaborate with Joko Anwar, the scale gets bigger and his ambition sharper. Satan’s Slaves: Origin is different from anything he has ever made, a story that moves across centuries and continents," said Yoonhee Choi.
Pengabdi Setan 3 is also part of the continuation of an exclusive two-year collaboration between Joko Anwar and Barunson E&A. Previously, the two collaborated on the horror-comedy film Ghost in the Cell, which has been sold to 150 territories worldwide.
With a story that spans from Europe to Java, a time frame of centuries, and the use of seven languages, this film is positioned as the largest chapter in the Pengabdi Setan universe. Audiences in Indonesia are scheduled to wait until 2027 to see how this dark history connects with the mythology that is already known.
