Make Low-Cost Apartments the Main Location for 'PENGABDI SETAN 2', Joko Anwar Gets Help from Followers - Conceals the Location

Joko Anwar said that he had difficulty finding a suitable low-cost apartment to be used as a location. Because when searching, the apartment is not just the place where the events in the film take place, but also an important character. So it's no wonder that his search took months.

"We shot in a low-cost apartment. We searched for it for almost four months around Jakarta and Bandung. Because when we shoot, we make the location not just a shooting location, but also a character. So when searching for a location, it's like auditioning for actors, we look for the strongest character," said Joko, who was met at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta.

1. Getting Help from Followers

Because he couldn't find the low-cost apartment he wanted, Joko Anwar asked for help from his social media followers. From there, he found what he had envisioned in his head.

"After searching for a suitable location for four months but not finding it, I asked for help from my followers to find it. And we got information from one of my followers. Because it was very helpful, we gave a special thanks in the film's credits," said the 46-year-old man.

2. Not Operating for 15 Years

Joko Anwar's work did not stop when the location was found. He had to take care of permits because the apartment that was going to be used had not been operating for 15 years.

"The location of the apartment is in Jakarta, we will cover it up until the film is released. The apartment has been empty for 15 years, before filming we asked if it was possible to use it, and it turned out to be very possible," explained Joko.

3. Forbidden Room on the Seventh Floor

Before the filming process began, the apartment requested that several rooms on the seventh floor not be used. When someone intentionally entered, something unwanted happened.

"There are several places that the guard said should not be entered on the seventh floor. Because it's forbidden, we didn't enter. There was someone who entered and something we didn't want to happen happened. But we don't need to talk about it to avoid sensationalism," said Joko Anwar.
