In the context of the Gunung Kidul community, the phenomenon of suicide by hanging is linked to the myth of Pulung Gantung. This myth serves as the foundation of the film's story, which seeks to explore the cultural and social background of the region.

Adriansyah emphasizes that this film is not just a mystery story but also functions as a critique of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).

“It is very inaccurate for a government institution to consider this phenomenon as a cultural heritage,” said Adriansyah when met in the Bangka area, South Jakarta, on Monday (30/9/2024).

Furthermore, Adriansyah believes that the Ministry of Education and Culture has rushed to conclusions. “This is a mystery that needs to be further investigated so that this case does not happen again,” he stated.

It is hoped that the film PULUNG GANTUNG can provide a more logical perspective to the audience regarding this suicide phenomenon.

“As a filmmaker and a citizen who loves the nation's culture, I have an alternative perspective that should be considered more rationally,” explained Adriansyah.

This film will explore themes related to the myths that develop in the Gunung Kidul community, while exploring the mystery behind the act of suicide. With this approach, Adriansyah hopes to raise the audience's awareness about the importance of dialogue regarding this sensitive issue.

“We want the audience to see another side of this phenomenon that has long been considered taboo,” he concluded.
