Reasons Dian Sastrowardoyo Makes the Film 'Guru-Guru Gokil', Wants to Tell the Unique Lives of Educators that are Rarely Known

In a recent virtual press conference, the actress who played Cinta in ADA APA DENGAN CINTA? revealed her reasons for making the film GURU-GURU GOKIL. According to her, in Indonesia, films that tell stories about education are very rare.

"Honestly, we are very interested in making a film about the concept of education. Because we see that films with an educational background are very rare. For example, a school background, and so on," said Dian Sastrowardoyo

1. Want to Tell More About the Figure of a Teacher

Dian Sastro herself, although many films have a school setting, not all of them tell about education, and most of them certainly tell about the romance of the students.

Now, in this debut film that she produced together with BASE Entertainment, this 38-year-old actress tells more about the figure of teachers that are rarely told.

"What I mean is that there are many films with a school setting, but usually they are mostly love stories about the students, it's very rare to tell about the teachers," she said.

Another reason, besides the fact that films about education are still very rare in Indonesia, Dian Sastro wants to highlight the lives behind the scenes of the teachers. About how they become ordinary people when they are at home.

"So these educators, these educational actors, actually they must have a very unique life that is rarely told in Indonesia,"

This film GURU-GURU GOKIL tells the story of a teacher named Taat Pribadi (Gading Marten) who initially hated this profession. However, he is forced to become a teacher for a reason. 

But as time goes by, Taat begins to find many meanings and the true essence of life and success as a teacher. 

Not only Gading Marten, this film will also be starred by other big names, such as Dian Sastro herself, Asri Welas, Ibnu Jamil, Boris Bokir, and Faradina Mufty.
