Rejecting the Offer to Direct an International-Scale Film, Joko Anwar: It's Only Hollywood

In order to make SIKSA KUBUR his tenth work, Joko rejected an offer to direct a Hollywood film. This decision was made because the international-scale project suddenly advanced the principal photography process.

"I had several projects in Hollywood, suddenly one project was on, and it had to be filmed at the end of last year. So, at the end of last year, I rejected the Hollywood film to make SIKSA KUBUR," said Joko when met in the Cipete area, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/3).

Rejecting offers to direct Hollywood films is responded to calmly by Joko Anwar. Because in modern times like now, making films anywhere can penetrate the Hollywood market.

"It's only Hollywood. Nowadays, Hollywood doesn't mean anything anymore. We made the film SATAN'S SLAVE and it was watched there, and eventually I got an agent," said Joko.

2. Not Because of the Hollywood Label

Furthermore, Joko Anwar stated the reason for accepting some offers to direct Hollywood films. It turns out not because of the Hollywood label, but because of the interesting story to be executed.

"I chose projects there not because of Hollywood, but because they are really interesting," said the director from Medan firmly.

In the middle of this year, Joko Anwar admitted that he will be overseas for several months to work on another international project. However, he keeps the title of the project confidential.
