Kapanlagi.com - MD Pictures production house is preparing to release a remake of CATATAN SI BOY on August 17 in all cinemas in Indonesia. This modern version is led by renowned director Hanung Bramantyo.

When first offered to direct by producer Manoj Punjabi, Hanung admitted to having doubts. He questioned whether Boy's story, which exploded in 1987, was still relevant to the situation in 2023.

"When I was first offered this film, I asked myself: is the current scenario still relevant? Why was the '87 version booming because this film became a symbol of rebellion for young people against conservative parents. That was back then. Will it be the same now?" said Hanung, interviewed at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Saturday (5/8/2023).

1. Conflict with Manoj Punjabi

The doubt made Hanung Bramantyo try to change the dialogue in Upi's script so that the character of Boy wouldn't become weak in his opinion. But instead, it made Manoj Punjabi unhappy.

"I thought, maybe the various OTT film attacks made the character of Boy very weak. Because I was a bit unsure, during filming I made the dialogue a bit heavy but Mr. Manoj firmly said 'No, don't change the dialogue. This scene is already good!'," said Hanung.

2. Boy 'Beautiful' Version by Angga Yunanda

After a screening for the media crew, positive responses were received. This made Hanung Bramantyo relieved because his doubt didn't come true. He proudly presents Boy's version by Angga Yunanda, which he called 'beautiful'.

"I was surprised to know the audience's reaction and it made me confident. I welcome the Boy of the 2023 era. For those who lived in the 80s like me, don't be surprised that Boy is more beautiful than before. But indeed, handsomeness evolves, so be open to the progress of time because Boy also evolves. Angga has given me something extraordinary," Hanung concluded.
