Serial 'NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS' Soon to be Released, Joko Anwar Reveals the Difficulty of Production Due to the Exploration of the Sci-Fi Supernatural Genre

Kapanlagi.com - Long time no hear, the latest development comes from Joko Anwar's original Netflix series titled NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS. In the Next on Netflix event held at Hotel Kempinski, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (1/2/2024), it was revealed that the series will be released this year.

In the seven-episode series, Joko invited three other directors to be involved. They are Tommy Dewo, Randolph Zaini, and Ray Pakpahan. Joko wants to introduce talented new filmmakers who will enliven the industry.

"This series has several episodes, and then the producer and I thought of inviting three directors, Tommy Dewo, Ray Pakpahan, and Randolph Zaini. We want this to be a showcase of the best talents from new filmmakers," said Joko.

1. Reasons for the Lengthy Production Process

The existence of NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS was announced during the Netflix event last year with an estimated release in 2023. The delay in airing was revealed by Joko Anwar due to the difficulty of producing the series.

"We have been working on the series NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS for two years since April 2022. We shoot it with preparation for each episode, and then prepare for the next episode. So what makes it take so long is that this series is difficult to make because we are exploring different genres," said Joko Anwar.

2. Unconventional Genre

NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS adopts the genre of supernatural science fiction. Considering that it is a genre that is rarely explored, Joko Anwar doesn't want to do things halfway.

"This genre is not widely known in Indonesia, which is supernatural science fiction. But we have to continuously provide something fresh to the audience so that they are willing to watch works from Indonesia," emphasized Joko Anwar.

NIGHTMARES AND DAYDREAMS tells the story of several people with different backgrounds from 1985 to 2023 who experience strange and unexplainable phenomena. They are then brought together in a fate that is very important for the survival of humanity.
