Thai film 'PEE MAK' remade in Indonesia, starring Vino G Bastian and Marsha Timothy

Kapanlagi.com - PEE MAK is one of the highest-grossing films in Thailand. This horror comedy is directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and stars Mario Maurer and Davika Hoorne.

Ten years after its release, Falcon Pictures production company remade it with the title KANG MAK directed by Herwin Novianto. The Indonesian version stars Vino G Bastian as Kang Makmur and Marsha Timothy as Sari.

"We will start shooting the film KANG MAK. Besides being good, the story can also be accepted globally, so we want to adapt it to the Indonesian version," said Frederica, the producer from Falcon Pictures, during a press event in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (31/1/2024).

In addition to Vino G Bastian, KANG MAK is also enlivened by a series of players in the film MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7, such as Indro Warkop, Tora Sudiro, Rigen Rakelna, and Indra Jegel. As a producer, Frederika intentionally brings them together.

"The reason might be because their chemistry is extraordinary, so we want to bring them back in one film titled KANG MAK. They do come back, but with a different feel," added Frederika.

2. Changing the Story Setting

Screenwriter Alim Sudio is once again invited by Falcon Pictures to translate the original Thai story into a distinctive Indonesian style. So, how does Alim work on it?

"Actually, I'm most afraid when asked to remake a comedy film, afraid it won't be funny. When asked to write for this, what was most interesting was discussing the story setting, and in the end, we decided to use the 70s," explained Alim on the same occasion.
