Film 'MISSION IMPOSSIBLE' Played at Meikarta Drive In Cinema, Indonesian Distributor Claims to Not Know

Kapanlagi.com - To fulfill the longing of the community for the culture of watching movies in theaters, Meikarta held an event called Meikarta Drive In Cinema at Sky Parking District 1 from May 30 to June 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the event has caused controversy because the films shown do not have permission.

Previously, Chand Parwez, the producer of SUSAH SINYAL, claimed that his film was shown without permission. Now, it is the turn of the producer of DILAN 1990, Ody Mulya Hidayat, who stated that no one from Meikarta contacted him regarding the screening of the teenage drama.

"There was never any permission for the screening. We were also surprised," said Ody, as quoted from a written statement received by KapanLagi.com, on Wednesday (3/6/2020).

In addition to Indonesian films, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL starring Tom Cruise was also screened. PT Omega Film, as the distributor for circulation in Indonesia, also claimed to have no knowledge.

"As the distribution holder, we were never asked for permission. So we don't know about the screening of the film," said Ajay Fulwani, CEO of PT Omega Film.

2. Sending a Legal Notice

Together with other producers, Chand Parwez, who serves as the Chairman of the Indonesian Film Company Association (APFI), will send a legal notice to Meikarta. If there is no response, they plan to pursue this matter through legal channels.

3. Criminal Threat

If the screening of the film is indeed done illegally, Meikarta violates Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright Article 9 letter H regarding communication of creations and commercial permits. Based on Article 113, such violation falls within the criminal realm with a maximum prison sentence of three years and a maximum fine of IDR 500 million.
