Movieverse Review: WUTHERING HEIGHTS

Kapanlagi.com - The film WUTHERING HEIGHTS directed by Emerald Fennell is a modern and provocative adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Bronte. After officially premiering in Indonesian cinemas this February, curious Movieverse members gathered for a screening at CGV fX Sudirman last Friday (13/2).

This romantic fantasy film tells the story of an orphan named Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi) who grows up with Catherine (Margot Robbie) at Wuthering Heights and forms a strong bond of love since childhood. However, Catherine chooses to marry Edgar for social status, causing Heathcliff to leave for many years and return as a wealthy man harboring a grudge from the heartbreak he experienced. Heathcliff's return triggers conflict and betrayal that ends tragically.

The Movieverse members present appeared very enthusiastic about watching the British film. After witnessing the toxic relationship story, various comments were shared by the members. This screening event was not just about watching together, but also a moment to strengthen the bonds among members.

Qoray: This film is perfect for girls who like yearning boys. After watching this, you will definitely want to have a Heathcliff, I mean, PLEASE WORSHIP ME LIKE HEATHCLIFF WORSHIPS CATHY. What I also like about this film is the soundtrack. Although the electro-pop contrasts with the old-fashioned background of the story, the soundtrack feels really fitting. The light plot, beautiful visuals, and good acting make it enjoyable to follow this cheating drama.

Salsabila: I have never watched another version of Wuthering Heights. But Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi's acting here is really great! It's an adaptation of a novel, but some reviews don't exactly match the novel. For those who like intense, tragic, and somewhat toxic stories, you will definitely enjoy this film. But don't expect a happy ending. For fans of movies starring Margot Robbie, I recommend it!

Yess: In my opinion, Wuthering Heights is not a tragic love story - it's a portrait of an unhealthy relationship from the start. Many people refer to Heathcliff and Catherine's relationship as 'the irreplaceable true love.' But if you look more honestly, their relationship is built on wounds, jealousy, pride, and obsession. That's not romantic. It's destructive.

Heathcliff: Growing up with feelings of rejection and humiliation, then choosing to respond to the world with anger. Catherine loves him, but still chooses social status and comfort. Both are emotionally immature; they love but are not responsible for the consequences of their choices.
