Not Only Showing Horror, 'HIS HOUSE' Addresses Social Issues Within

Kapanlagi.com - Netflix launches a horror film that addresses social issues titled HIS HOUSE. This film is directed by Remi Weekes, who previously worked on several short films such as MINE ALL MINE, EXHALE. This time, Weekes dared to direct a full-length horror film that addresses social issues. Assisted by Felicity Evans and Toby Venables as the film's writers. Previously, this film was screened at the Sundance Festival and received positive responses from the audience. Therefore, Netflix dared to acquire this film.

HIS HOUSE tells the story of a young couple, Rial (Wunmi Mosaku) and Bol (Sope Dirisu), who are refugees from Sudan. They were previously Sudanese citizens who could not tolerate the unfavorable conditions in their country due to ongoing war. So that they made this couple run away from the country and be saved by England. In England, Rial and Bol were given a place to stay in a plantation area, they felt happy even though the house given was not suitable.

After a few days of living in the house, they still haven't found anything strange, until an incident happened in their house that changed everything. Day by day, they experienced disturbances and felt the presence of supernatural beings living in the house. As a result of these disturbances, they intended to report it to the local police, but they were still hesitant because of their refugee status, whether they would be accepted if they complained about something irrational.

Looking at the storyline, this film reminds of similar films like GET OUT and THE CONJURING. Where the tension presented is not only about the characters but also has social and moral dimensions. What is the ending of this film? Can Rial and Bol adapt to the new world they inhabit? Can they survive the social pressure and haunted house conditions?

HIS HOUSE is now available on Netflix streaming service starting from October 30, 2020.
