Broadbandchoices through the 'Science Of Scare' project measured the heart rate of 50 people with different age ranges while watching horror movies for over 100 hours. They concluded that there are 35 horror movies that are most feared by the respondents.

He added that his team has conducted online research through IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and Reddit to find 50 horror movies that are worth testing on their 50 respondents. From those 50 movies, they selected the 35 scariest movies for the respondents.

The movie directed by Scott Derrickson in 2012, THE SINISTER, emerged as the most feared movie by the respondents of the 'Science Of Scare' project. THE SINISTER tells the story of a mystery novelist and his family who decide to move into a house where a family murder case occurred. There, he finds an old film showing many family murders, including those that happened in his new home.

THE SINISTER successfully made the 50 respondents scared. The average heart rate showed 86 beats per minute when watching this movie. Meanwhile, their average heart rate while relaxing is at 65 beats per minute. There is a 32% increase in the heart rate of respondents when watching this movie. Not only that, the shocking scene of the movie THE SINISTER successfully raised their heart rate to reach 131 beats per minute.

The second position is occupied by the movie INSIDIOUS. The respondents' heart rate increases by 21% when watching this movie and can reach 133 bpm when startled. The third, fourth, and fifth positions are filled by THE CONJURING, HEREDITARY, AND PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.
