Write All Songs on 'GREY SUIT', EXO's SUHO Reveals Songs for EXO-L and Why You Should Listen to the Album from Start to Finish

Kapanlagi.com - As we know, EXO's SUHO has just made a comeback to the music world with the album GREY SUIT with the title track of the same name. SUHO must have been involved in the preparation and concept of the album.

This is SUHO's second album after previously releasing SELF-PORTRAIT. In both of his albums, the EXO leader fully participated in writing the lyrics for all of the songs.

During the press conference for GREY SUIT held on Monday (4/4/2022), SUHO shared his experience in writing lyrics for the songs he sings.

1. Time Theme Inspiration

As mentioned earlier, SUHO has experience in writing his own lyrics. He shared the process of finding inspiration for the lyrics.

"Compared to when I was still active in promotions (as an idol), I had a lot of time for myself during the two years of mandatory military service. Therefore, I worked on this album with the theme of 'time' and ended up participating in writing all the songs and creating the album concept. For this album, I was inspired by the novel Momo by Michael Ende, one of the books I read during my military service. I realized the importance of time and thought a lot about how to incorporate it into the album so that people can relate to it," he explained.

2. Reasons for Calling this Album GREY SUIT

SUHO previously mentioned that the novel 'Momo' was the source of inspiration for this album. The reason for choosing the album title, 'Grey Suit', is also related to this.

"Some people already know that the album GREY SUIT was inspired by 'The Men in Grey' in the novel 'Momo'. And for the past two years, I have seen the EXO members very active in promotions like releasing 'Don't Fight The Feeling'. I feel like the outside world is excited and flowing with time, while my own time is frozen. It feels like I am trapped in a gray area, that's why I named this album GREY SUIT."

3. Lyrics Making Process

When it comes to songwriting, SUHO certainly goes through several processes in making it. So, is he satisfied with the results of his writing in the GREY SUIT album this time?

"I wrote about myself at the age of 30 and EXO's 10 years in the SELF-PORTRAIT album. For this album, I wrote about my two years. I thought about what kind of story I could share with fans that would make them feel related and what they like to listen to. There were times when I found it difficult to write something, but I used that time to discuss with other lyric writers and combine words from anywhere and felt very satisfied with the results," said SUHO.

4. Listen to Suho's Album from Beginning to End

In the GREY SUIT album, SUHO wrote a total of six songs. For those who don't know, those songs were arranged based on SUHO's wishes because he had certain reasons.

"There are a total of six songs in this album and I approached them all organically from beginning to end, like choosing a strong intro for the first song. Of course, you have the option to listen to a particular song first, but most people listen to the album from start to finish, and I want to make sure that each song flows smoothly. Each song has a different composer," said SUHO.

"I played the outro of the second song to the composer of the third song and we worked together to choose a similar sound so that it could sound just right. Even if you may choose some parts of the book and enjoy them, you still need to read the whole book to understand the story. Like a book, I hope you listen to all my songs on this album from beginning to end," SUHO hoped.

5. Easiest Song to Write

SUHO once explained that there were times when he felt he couldn't write lyrics and needed to discuss with many people. But of course, there were times when he felt he could write smoothly. So what is the easiest and hardest song to write in GREY SUIT?

"The easiest song is the sixth one, Moment. I dedicate this song to the fans. I wrote down what the EXO members said during concerts and chose words or phrases that express our sincerity and added them to the lyrics, making the process of writing the song a little easier. On the other hand, writing for other songs was very challenging and I really felt the difficulty of being creative," he said.
