Kapanlagi.com - The music group Mily presents their new work. The latest is the band consisting of Idea Pasha (guitar), Chiara Aurelia (vocals), and Joshua Kresna (saxophone), collaborating with Stella Maris School to recycle or recycle regional children's songs with contemporary music.

"Actually, we are working on a project with Stella Maris and the songs happen to be regional children's songs. So, there are songs like Ampar Ampar Pisang, Ondel-ondel, Kampuang Nan Jauh di Mato, Gundul-Gundul Pacul. Basically, songs that are widely heard by the community," said Joshua Kresna in Gading Serpong, South Tangerang, on Sunday (17/10/2021).

The regional songs that have been rearranged come from Jakarta, Java, South Kalimantan, and several other regions. Of course, these songs will be made fresher with contemporary music. Although made contemporary, it does not eliminate the traditional music sound.

"So, the arrangement focuses more on the actual music, because Mily is acoustic, so we highlight the instruments. After that, we also incorporate Javanese pentatonic scales, regional music," said Joshua.

"So, it has the characteristic sound of gamelan, the sound of flute. So, we combine traditional, modern, and our characteristic music," Joshua added.

1. Not an Easy Thing

For Mily, covering those old songs is definitely not an easy thing. Especially since the songs they perform come from various regions. So, they need to be careful in singing them.

"It's definitely difficult, we have to be very careful with the pronunciation so that nothing goes wrong. The difficulty is mainly in that aspect, and we have to learn it quickly," said Chiara Aurelia.

Currently, Mily Band is working on shooting a music video by collaborating with several students from Stella Maris School. What's interesting is that the costumes they wear in the music video tell the story of Indonesia's diversity.

"There are quite a lot of costumes. But you'll see later. Let people be curious, so when we mention it later, they won't be curious anymore. Basically, it's very Indonesian," said Chiara Aurelia.

Rearranging children's songs from different regions is rarely done by a band group. If there is, it can only be counted on one hand. So, what makes Mily Band interested in singing children's songs from different regions in Indonesia?

"Why do we choose songs like regional songs, we also want to try introducing songs, especially regional songs, which are national songs. So we're trying to reintroduce them," said Idea Pasha.

Mily Band's latest project will be released on October 28th. They deliberately chose that date to commemorate Youth Pledge Day with their works.

"And we also want this to be for Youth Pledge Day, actually, that's the purpose. So we want to commemorate it, of course with our cover works," concluded Idea Pasha.
