Melanie Subono's Comment on Dewa 19 Concert Amidst Protests

Melanie Subono provides her sharp views regarding the organization of the Dewa 19 Featuring All Stars concert held amidst a heated political situation. While supporting musicians to continue creating, she offers a strong note.

When met in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday (05/9/2025), Melanie, who claims she is not a Baladewa, highlights the fact that there is someone in the band who is also a people's representative.

According to her, this demands sensitivity and adjustments from the organizers to avoid hurting the feelings of the public who are struggling to voice their aspirations.

"I believe you have made adjustments considering the current conditions. Because if not, you are just creating more anger about the insensitivity of the situation," she said.

This vocal activist argues that as long as the event does not showcase excessive luxury and maintains sensitivity, there is no reason to cancel it. After all, many people depend on this industry for their livelihood.

"As long as you don't show off or do unnecessary and unimportant things, go ahead, why not? That's really your job," she added.

However, Melanie firmly dismisses the notion that a music concert can serve as an antidote or relief for the escalating political situation. For her, the root of the problem is much deeper than mere entertainment.

According to her, the only way to truly calm public anger is through total reform in the legislative body.

"Oh, to ease the situation it’s just the reform of the DPR, MPR. There’s nothing else," he asserted.

"The problem has nothing to do with music. You want to fix the situation? DPR, MPR, you fix it," he concluded.
